BILL CARSON - RIP
I am very saddened to receive the news of
Captain Bill Carson passing on April 13, 2015.
I have fond memories of layovers in Gander
when Bill was also there. Remember his great
hunting stories. It was 55 years ago and we
have had a lot of fellow crewmembers take that
last journey and may they rest in peace.
Friends Forever!

Chief Pilot - Director of Operations 1960
Fortunately we still have some old timers to
celebrate the good old days with. I just
celebrated my 80th birthday and was honored by
the presence of Bill Hardenstine. A few days
later Bill and I had lunch with Ken Healy.
Ken celebrated his 99th birthday March 9th and
was the Chief Pilot in Oakland back in 1960.
Bill will celebrate his 93rd birthday on May
21st and was the Director of Operations in
New York in 1960.
We all have very fond memories
of that great year in the history of ONA.
All the best to those we worked with back
in the good old days.

ONA Crew Love
FIFTY YEAR WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY FOR
INGRID AND WARREN VEST!

THANKSGIVING 2012
Ingrid and I had a big Thanksgiving week.
Tuesday the 20th our two sons put on a big
party to celebrate our 50th wedding
anniversary. Without ONA it would not
have come about. I was an ONA DC-6 Captain
based in New York and Ingrid was an ONA
Ground Hostess in Frankfurt. Our first
meeting was in April 1960 during one of
my Shannon-Frankfurt-Shannon turnarounds.
She was qualified as a Flight Attendant
in order to cover for any flight attendant
sickness out of Frankfurt. When she would
work a trip to New York and I was not on a
trip we would get together and see the
sights of New York and the Jersey Shore.
When the military contract ended in the
Fall of 1960 I was transferred to Oakland,
CA to fly the DC-7 and Ingrid immigrated
to the USA. A few months after arriving in
New York she became a TWA flight attendant
based in New York and later transferred to
Boston. The enormous ONA reduction in force
during early 1961 put me out of work and I
accepted the Chief Pilot position at Air
Jordan in Amman.
I was hired by TWA in March of 1962 as a
supervisor of flying for Saudi Arabian
Airlines. All during 1961 and 1962 Ingrid
and I were corresponding and on November
20th 1962 we were married in Hampton, NH.
It has been a great 50 years and we will
always be indebted to ONA for bringing us
together. We recently attended a World
Airways Reunion and enjoyed the company of
Ken Healy, ONA Chief Pilot-Oakland in 1960,
Bill Hardenstine, ONA Director Operations-
New York in 1960 and Kenny Zask a great
aircraft mechanic at ONA and World for many
years.
I will attach a picture of Bill Hardenstine
and Ken Healy from about one year ago for
some of the old timers to enjoy.
Also throw one in of Ingrid and I from last
Easter.
Wishing everybody a wonderful Holiday Season
and a Merry Christmas.

CAPTAIN WARREN VEST
Royal Jordanian Airbus A310-300
Royal Jordanian Airways
I was one of the Steedman gang from
the
USAF at McGuire AFB, N.J.
After the big ONA furlough in early
1961 I became Chief Pilot of Air Jordan
in the Middle East and was there and in
Europe until joining
World Airways in 1965.
I spent 40 years at World and retired
in 2005. I live in Dublin, CA. and have
a home in Rancho Mirage as well so would
love a ONA West Coast get together!
Cub Morrison was in Florida and looking good.
It was good to see Jack Gold,
Johnny Walker, Ron Preed,
Dave McCloy from 47 years ago.
I see Ken Healy often. He was Chief Pilot
in Oakland in 1960.
My wife was one of the ONA Ground
Hostesses in Frankfurt along with
Ursula Schafer who is married to
Herb Eckhardt who was Director of
ONA Maintenance in Frankfurt. They
now live just South of Vancouver, BC.
