Love is in the air!
This is how Ted and Barbara Brettell met.
It was October 1957. It was a new job
for Barbara, a young airline named Mohawk.
Ted joined in March of '57.
A short time later Mohawk opened a
new base at Utica, NY, so naturally
the two junior crews were based there.
Ted was a co-pilot back then, plus
Ops personnel, became more than good
friends, they became family.
They started out on the DC3 and then
onto the Convairs 240's, 440's,
Martin 404's and BAC 111.
Ted left Mohawk to fly for Northeast
Airlines, then a 2 month stint with
Peter, Paul and Mary, then Saturn
Airways based in San Antonio.
It was at Saturn where Ted met Bob Love.
He was a check airman and he rated
Ted in the DC- 7 & 7C. After Saturn
Ted joined ONA, thanks to Bob, as a
captain on the DC-7 then on to DC-9,
DC 8's,DC10 - After ONA, Ted went on
to United Air Carriers and he checked
out on the B 747. Based at NY, Saudi
Arabia, Greece and Ireland, where he
had another set of close friends, that
became family.
Ted had his wings clipped in 1986 at
that dreaded age 60!! Then found a new
home with the FAA.
While at the FAA he then got rated on
the A320 and Falcon 50.
Ted retired September 2000.
Barbara stayed with Mohawk and became
second in seniority and before leaving,
did the crew scheduling for the stews
in the EWR base.
Barb left Mohawk in 1967 to become a
Broker Associate for a local Realtor
in Mountain Lakes, NJ and is still
currently plying that trade, in fact
she is still very successful in the
house selling business.
Barb lost her dad in 1967, her mom in
1974 and was down to one cousin
(Pat) in California. Now, thanks to
Ted, Barb has a rather large family
consisting of 2 sisters, aunts &
uncles, nieces & nephews & many
cousins.
Ted lost his first love, Jane, after
46 years of marriage. Ted has two
daughters Sherry and Wendy. Ted
also has two sister's, Marie (Mahwah),
and Joan (Tinton Falls), who has a
daughter Laurie, and sons Scott and
Mark.
Mark, an ordained minister, on May 2,
2004 joined Ted and Barbara in
marriage at Mark's mothers home.
The happy couple is still waiting
for the time to go on a honeymoon.

We wish all our families and friends,
both on the ground and in the air much
happiness and God speed, says Ted & Barb.
"It now appears that we will be able to
go on a honeymoon around the end of
May. Well, we had to try it out for
the first year to make sure it would
work out OK so now that we have
successfully completed the first
year of this union we can complete
the marriage by taking a honey moon.
Regards to all our friends and
hope we will see you all soon.
Ted & Barbara Secola"
