Welcome to Sigrid Monkemeyer Watersī page!![]() |
![]() Hurricane shutters! We had a few worries about the hurricanes that came near our part of Florida, but I had made some hurricane shutters a couple years ago and painted them up to match our house colors and they were installed August for Hurricane Wilma. That one didn't hit too near us, but we did get some high winds and it blew over a small tree in our front yard, but no other damage. We invited an older couple to stay overnight with us for the hurricane. They live in a condo right on the Gulf coast on Longboat Key and were worried that the hurricane might just get too close to them there, so called to see what our plans were. Since we have a whole house electrical generator and other protective features, we usually weather the storms out here. So we invited them. Glad to know all went well, Sigrid and Lee! |

Sigrid in uniform! Sigrid was born in the city of Osterwieck in the Harz mountains on the DDR side of the "wall". At age 11 her family escaped to the west through Berlin subway and then spent a time in refugee camps until they finally ended up in Betzdorf/Sieg which is in the Westerwald region of Germany (east of Cologne and northwest of Frankfurt). Sigrid did some Aupair work in Switzerland and England, was a travel agent in Frankfurt and later worked as a ticket agent at Frankfurt International Airport. Following that she lived in Reykjavik, Iceland for two years flying for Icelandic Airlines and then flew a year for Suedflug (a German charter company). Finally, she went to ONA school and became a flight attendant there from 1967 to 1969 when she married an USAF C-141 pilot named Lee Waters. They have two daughters who are married and on their own. |
