MY ONAI flew with Kathy Grandin (Gursel), Ruth Darden, Barbara Stevens, Sandy Marks, Barbro Lindahl, Kerstin Dverre, Marilyn Davis (Cooledge), Lynn Nanery. I can see so many other faces, but am drawing a blank on names. We all flew out of New York. I just recently got a note from Kerstin and am thrilled to get back in touch with her after so long. I visited her twice in Sweden right after I left ONA and had great times there. She is talking about trying to attend the next reunion and so am I. One thing we are not clear on, though, is the location and timeframe. Has it been scheduled yet? As for places we went to, London, Rome, Frankfurt, Palma and Torremolinos were the most frequent layovers. I did have several flights to Japan and 2 into Vietnam, which was pretty scarey. One incident I just remembered was taking a MAC flight to Frankfurt, and, of course, talking to the GI's. Two years later I had a MAC flight into Vietnam and one of the guys who had been on the Frankfurt flight was then headed for Vietnam. I always wondered what happened to him, especially when he talked non-stop about his wife and 2 children. Marilyn Davis was one of my roommates in New York, and we had a flight together to Torremolinos, with a 2-day layover scheduled. On day 3, we all were standing outside the hotel waiting for the bus and got talking to another crew from Flying Tigers. It only took a few minutes to realize that they were taking our scheduled flight back to NY. It seemed that one of our planes had a mechanical problem so wasn't coming to Malaga for the flight. We soon found out that the schedulers forgot we were there and the next flight wasn't coming through for 5 more days. So, we all took a boat over to Tangiers, stayed for 2 1/2 days and had a ball. Boy, those were the days!!! You are really bringing back the memories. Take care, Rita |
