I found this picture from Continental. Airforce ONE used to
land at Continental. We got to greet the current President.
(Training staff only). The two girls on the end are models.
I am the one that looks like I blew in with the wind,
actually I was teaching in galley that day. The only other
trainer is the beautiful mulatto, Tina, my best friend.
The old gent is the company owner.
FLYING WITH ONA
My first trip with ONA was to Greece where scheduling lost
us! We spent several weeks at the Athens Hilton ... no
money, no cockpit crew ... New York told everyone that
inquired that we had been fired!
After a few more flights, our class was furloughed in
New York during winter. I had never seen snow!!! Since
I was raised in Hawaii, it was a unreal.
ONA called us back after a few months. Anyone that would
relocate to California YEAH!! Off we went to Japan to
bring the boys back from Vietnam.
I loved the orient. We stayed at the Old Plaza Hotel,
loved that place and the staff. We flew Vietnam turns
taking in new boys and bringing back the burnt out
husks. I learnd a great lesson in empathy! We had the
same cnckpit crew for the duration. Bob Love, Gabe Potter
Bill Whitesell and Paul Stark. Lots of down time, lots of
The war ended and the evacuation began. First the
Baby Lift, then the Bar Girls. One of the girls put down
"whore" for occupation. I told her to stick with
entertainer. Ver interesting times. The reception
we received in the US was very bad.
Next the Hadj ... I spent a lot of off time in Abu Dhabi,
Dubai, Bahrain etc and found the people charming. Not so
the Saudis. On one flight from Indonesia an elderly gent
passed away. They threw his body out of the plane onto
the tarmac! I did the Hadj for 3 years. That was enough.
LINDA AUSNESS RECKO
The Flight Attendant / Instructor/
Fashion Store Manager / Painting Artist /
Since I was west-coast based I
spent a lot of years in Japan doing
Vietnam turns, a sad but thrilling
experience. I loved everything
about ONA especially the people!
What a cast of characters, each
individual unique. I treasure all
of the memories.
After ONA I joined Continental
training dept. After ONA it was a
shock! These were not airline people!
Where was the personality, the fun?
It was a job, nothing more. I stayed
5 long years.
From there my husband David, whom I met
on a Bangor layover - tnx ONA - and I
settled down in Orange County. Being
an artist I spent a year painting.
What a gift!
My next job was in retail at Fashion
Island, Newport Beach. I started off
as a manager for 2 stores and 11 years
later I ended up a multi store manager
Finally we relocated to Scottsdale,
Arizona, for David´s work. We retired
two years ago. Now I paint at least 4
hrs daily. Yeah! Busy life.
