Gene Holleman made his highestflight and final journey into eternal life on February 11, 2006. ONA 1960 ALAMEDA BY THE BAY ONA 1959 F/A GRADUATION HIGH FLIGHT Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter silved wings; Sunward I've climed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there. I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft though footless halls of air Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue. I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sancity of space. Put out my hand and touched the face of God John Gillespie Magee, Jr |
![]() Letter to Nettie Miller, San Francisco, from Bobbie Holleman, Gene´s wife. I am sorry to bring you sad news. Gene passed away on February 11, 2006. He wanted this, his final journey, to be treated as though he had just gone on another of the trips that had been his way of life. So in accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral, memorial, flowers or donations. He will be cremated with ashes scattered privately. The High Flight poem was sent to Nettie by Stinky´s wife after Stinky died. |
