AMAZING ONA CREW!
ANDY ANDRECHYN

I was in flying boats in world war 2. PBM, PBY, PB2Y5. I received the air medal.
1944 Consolidated PB2Y5

WHAT YEARS DID YOU FLY ONA AND
IN WHAT CREW POSITION?

I joined ONA 1977 till they closed shop. I started on the DC9, later on the DC8 and lastly on the DC10.

I flew captain on the DC9, DC8 and FO on the 10, however we had to get our type rateing on the 10.

ONA DESTINATIONS AND MISSIONS

TEST PILOT ON THE DC-10

After ONA folded I joined Douglas Aircraft Co as
production test pilot on the DC10.
They sent me to fly for Garuda,
the Indonesian Flag Carrier
based in Singapore.
That was a blast flying to Bali, Australia,
Hongkong and the Hadj.

Singapore Airlines at Singapore Changi Airport

They sent me to fly for Nigeria Airlines out of Africa to Europe and the Middle East, Hadj flights too. I enjoyed all the planes I flew. The DC9 was my first jet which is quite a transition from recipes.

ONA COMBINED FLYING WITH VACATIONS

Flying the DC8 got me to fly around the world taking folks on vacations which included me. The DC10 was my introduction to the jumbojet.

NICE APPEARANCE, WILL TRAVEL

THE PILOT ENTERTAINER!
I had a lot of fun with my nutty PA announcements. On one flight over Scotland I made the announcement, "Folks, I just picked up a publication where they sent another group of scientists over to see if there was really a Loch Ness Monster. I can assure everyone on this aircraft there really is a Loch Ness Monster, because a couple of weeks ago I had a lay-over there and took her out to dinner."

A passenger asked for my autograph when they were deplaning. I asked if they wanted the first and last name and they said of course. I put 2 X"s on a piece of paper and handed it to her.

The reunion was the greatest! I hadnīt seen some of the girls in over 35 years. It started at noon--still going strong at 9--I stayed in N.Y. for three days-- didn't want to miss anything. On Monday morning I flew with Betty Broderick--Pam Suett to Belize (Central America) for 5 days. Most of my best women friends are the O.N.A. girls. Love Marilyn

The ONA reunion was a blast! There was quite a few people I hadn't seen in ages. I joined ONA in 1969. Lots of screaming and kissing! And even tears....boy how I miss those good olde days. We were young and fun and whipped around all different places in the world like we were going to the corner drug store. And we forged friendships that are still in place 34 years later! Amazing!
Sandy
Ras Nielsen,
