HEY HEY ONA!

I've already had many lovely notes 
from dad´s ONA friends.  His time 
with ONA was one of the many incredible 
adventures he had during his life and 
he always spoke fondly of everyone 
involved with the airline.  The way 
I was treated by everyone when I flew 
on the airline was a testimony to the 
shared friendships he had with all of 
you. I'm not sure if you listed my 
e-mail on the website or in a mass 
mailing that you sent out.  If you could, 
would you please update my contact e-mail 
wherever it was posted to add my brothers' 
email as well?  Many folks at ONA know us 
through different paths and it would be 
nice to have us all listed.

Lyman 'Lymie' Thornton - Doreen
My late husband, Lyman 'Lymie' Thornton, 
worked for ONA and I recently received a 
notice from the SS office regarding pension.
They have asked me for a plan administrator 
for the old ONA pension and I have no idea.  
Do you know who that might be?  Probably need 
to know who is sending out pension checks.
Any information you can give would me 
appreciated.  By the way, there are many 
names I recognized on the pension site I found

While not flight crew, your names are oh 
so familiar. Worked with Steedman, Bill Bailey, 
Winnie Defieux and Bob Wagenfeld. It was a 
magical time with wonderful people. 
Have to plow through the memorabilia to see 
if there anything I can add.

I am an aviation author in the UK. 
I found your ONA crew website after 
looking for references to US Navy 
VP-45 Squadron. I am writing a book 
on the 100 year history of aviation 
in Bermuda and would like to contact 
aircrew that were based there with 
the Navy. One of your members is 
ALVIN QUACK. He sent some great 
pictures of flying boats in Bermuda 
and I would like to contact him so 
I can get some copies for possible 
use in my book. Could you contact 
him and ask him to contact me please?

By the way, I probably controlled 
a few ONA aircraft when I was an Air 
Traffic Controller at Gatwick many 
years ago! I certainly have some 
pictures of ONA aircraft at Gatwick.

I'm a soon to retire pilot and doing research 
on past airlines such as ONA.  I've viewed 
your website a few times but don't know my 
way around yet. I have a few questions for 
you if you don't mind:  Did ONA have a 
separate seniority list for pilots and for 
flight engineers?  The seniority lists I've 
viewed show pilots only.  ONA had flight 
engineers on Electras, Eights, and Tens 
(and earlier types) but were they on a 
separate list from the pilots?  I know the 
flight attendants would have been on a 
different list but I don't know about the 
cockpit crew.

Also, does anyone know of or remember a 
Mr. Armstrong at ONA?  I don't know if he 
was a pilot, flight engineer, or mechanic 
or what, just wondering if the name 
Armstrong rings a bell.  I have an 
acquaintance (named Armstrong) whose dad 
was with ONA but we don't have much of an 
opportunity to talk about him.  

I am personally familiar with two former 
ONA pilots (flew with both of them in 
life after ONA), Del Malliet and Bill 
Holloway.  I know Bill ("Sergeant Bilko") 
is gone now.  

I think I know how to contact Del.

I'm looking forward to my research on ONA 
and any direction you can give me will 
be appreciated.

I flew w/ Saturn Airways and was furloughed only 
to wind up w/ ONA at JFK early 70s. Have to

JESS WILLIAMS

Hello, everyone. This is my holiday season 
card/letter. I'm in fine condition, lost 25 
lbs to qualify for my 3rd class physical, so 
I can fly again. I joined the NRI Flying Club 
at Concord Airport and I am trying to check out 
in their Piper Cherokee Archer. This is strictly 
flying for fun and it isn't easy. I haven't flown 
for 10 years and I'm coming up on 70 years old 
this month. You're only as old as you feel and 
frankly I only feel 55, if that! I'm still 
teaching school as a substitute. It's not
easy to teach, but I get something in now and then. 

I'm also continuing to manage the Carmel Manor 
Apartments. This is my 6th year and I'm hoping
for a lot more. Marie and I see each other, almost 
daily, and it seems we are developing a renewed sense 
of appreciation for each other.Last summer we could 
be found in Hawaii and we will visit our daughter, 
Andrea, in April of '07. Andrea is participating in 
the Manna Project in Nicarauga.

She is committed to a 13 month program of helping 
the poor improve their lot in many ways, including 
health care, language, arts and sports. She
raised her own subsistance money (more than $10,000) 
through direct appeals, talent shows and just hard 
work. We are very proud of her and of her desire to 
give something back to humanity for all she has received.
Marie is working at The John Muir Outpatient Care Center 
in Walnut Creek.

Her building is near the hospital and not far from where 
I live. Jeff lives in Apt. 304 in the building I manage. 
Unfortunately, I don't see much of him as he has his own 
set of friends. Marie and I will visit my sister who lives 
with her boyfriend in Alameda. I will see Lee, her 
daughter Barrie and her two children on Christmas Eve. 
Later, we will be attending Christmas Eve services at 
Lafayette Christian Church where we have been attending 
since 1979. Christmas Day we will be spending with
friends, dinner and all. Have a jolly Christmas and a 
happy and safe New
Year's Eve. Regards and love to you all. Jess.

WILLIAM STEVENSON AND ORIGINAL ONA MANUAL
I have a reasonably complete ONA Operations 
Manual, #488, in which the pilot entries start 
at line number 23, dated 9/10/59, and possible 
initials EZ. There are further, varied entries 
to line 79, which is apparently last dated 
3/15/62.
If anyone in your organization would be 
interested in the manual, I would gladly mail it. 
The manual was given to me many years ago, from 
my father-in-law (since passed), who flew Air 
Force, Air Viet Nam, and then private charter. 
I do not believe that he ever flew for ONA, 
however I do believe that an old friend of 
his did ... a Bob Duncan ... his initials MAY 
be on several of the lines ("RTD" or "RFD"?). 
I have no way of contacting him nor his family. 
The other initials MAY be ... "MDE", and last 
entry ... MAY be "RNY" in 1962. Hope this is 
of some use, and that the manual may find a
